Witness 11: Lincoln Majhi
Testimony of Lincoln Majhi
My name is Lincoln Majhi, Age: 27 years, Father: [redacted] Permanent Address [redacted] Gopalganj; Current Address: [redacted] Dhaka.
I am currently employed as a Staff Nurse at Farazy Hospital, Bonosree.
Before this, from April to December 2024, I was employed as a Staff Nurse at Famous Specialized Hospital, Meradia, Bonosree. This hospital is adjacent to the Rampura Police Station.
On 19th July 2024, Friday, shortly after the Jummah prayers, we heard the sound of gunfire from outside while inside the hospital. At that time, a student movement was ongoing across the country; shortly after, gunshot victims began arriving at the hospital. Their number was approximately 80 to 100. We provided them with first aid and referred those in serious condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Thereafter, at approximately 4:00 PM that day, a call was received on the hospital’s landline phone. The caller from the other end informed us that a person was lying with gunshot wounds on the roof of a three-story building under construction in front of the Rampura Police Station.
A few days later, I learned from a viral video on social media that the injured person’s name was Amir Hossain. Our hospital’s Dr. Jihad Sir, Night Guard Jahid, I, and one other individual went there and brought the person with gunshot wounds to the hospital. After providing first aid at our hospital, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The driver of that ambulance, Siraj, was called. I learned from them that they were pressured to provide the address of Amir Hossain.
Subsequently, I learned through various sources that police officers Chanchal and Tareq shot Amir Hossain.
The Investigating Officer (IO) has interrogated me.
This is my statement.
Cross-examination) on behalf of Chanchal Chandra Sarker:
I do not know the name of the person who called the hospital landline.
When we went to the roof of the building under construction, the person with gunshot wounds was in a dying (critical) state.
The person was conscious at that time. However, he was not in a condition to speak.
I saw that there were 6 gunshot wounds on both legs of Amir Hossain.
It is not true that there were no gunshot marks on Amir Hossain’s legs.
It is not true that I have spoken falsely regarding Amir Hossain not being in a condition to speak at that time.
The Police Station did not summon me along with Dr. Jihad Sir and others.
It is not true that I have given false testimony.
Cross-examination) on behalf of absconding accused Habibur Rahman, Md. Rashedul Islam, MD Moshiur Rahman & Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan by learned state defense counsel:
I did not tell the Investigating Officer that “at that time, a student movement was ongoing across the country.”
It is not true that I did not tell the Investigating Officer about the arrival of patients at the hospital or that “shortly after, gunshot victims began arriving at the hospital, their number being approximately 80 to 100.”
It is not true that I spoke falsely regarding the statement that “a call was received on the hospital’s landline phone.”
I have heard that the Investigating Officer also interrogated Dr. Jihad Sir, Night Guard Jahid, and Driver Siraj.
I do not know the names of the individuals from whom I heard that police officers Chanchal and Tareq shot Amir Hossain.
It is not true that I have given false testimony.
Further Cross-examination) on behalf of Chanchal Chandra Sarker:
I do not remember the names of those from whom I heard that police officer Chanchal Chandra Sarker fired the shots.
It is not true that I have testified as tutored(by the prosecution).
There were rods, bamboos, etc., on the roof of that under-construction building.
