The Daily Star reported in September 2025, that the Inspector General of Police said that the police have initiated charges in 55 cases relating to deaths and injuries in the July 2024 protests.
18 of these cases for the offence of murder involved 1,941 accused, and 37 of these cases for other offences such as “grievous hurt” involving 2,185 accused.
This means that, on average, each murder case will involve 107 accused, and each injury case will involve 59 accused.
He added that this is just a fraction of the caseload
There are so many problems with this:
– have the police really found enough evidence to prove a case against such a large number of people for each death or injury? It seems impossible.
– Has anyone with some level of seniority, professionalism and independence actually gone through these charge sheets to see if they make any kind of sense? It seems unlikely
– How will it be possible to organise one trial involving so many accused, yet alone multiple trials? Again in seems impossible.
These kinds of trials – if they are allowed to continue in this way – will go nowhere quickly, and if they are allowed to happen, will create a whole new set of victims
